Easy SSlyth Conversion

Ever since the dark eldar were updated, I have wanted a squad of these guys.  I love the thought of four armed, snake-men.  I like the finecast model, but monopose for a unit of over 2 doesn't work for me.  I built these from original metal tyranid ravener bodies.  I cut off most of the large tail blade they have.  I also trimmed the width of the top of the ravener snakey tail, where I glued the first set of arms, to fit with the width of the dark eldar waists.  The metal was nice to work with, because I was able to bend the tails around to give each one some of its own character.  You will recognize other bits from dark eldar warriors, shard carbines from the scourge kit, dark elf weapons, harlequin weapons, wyche weapons, hellions and even a sword from the shining spears kit.  

House Hawkshroud Imperial Knights WIP

Working on some Imperial Knights.  I love these models.  These have been languishing in my case, half done, for a year or so.  Time to get them done.  I am loving the yellow.  So much so, that I am going to start an Imperial Fist army.  I finally magnetized them at the biceps for easy weapon swaps.  That's the part I was putting off for so long.  Hope you enjoy.

Thunderwolves Complete

I finished the Thundewolves.  I love these guys.  Tried some edge highlighting on one, Thought it was too light.

I magnetized the marines at the shoulder for changing weapons, but am a bit stymied on how to deal with squad markings for alternate weapons.  I think I will just have to paint up each weapon I want for the squad with the same pack markings.  Otherwise, it will look weird if I have one pack with multiple different right shoulder pad squad markings.  Anyone else have any ideas?  magnetized shoulder pads?

 And with his Black Mane company decal.  I don't love decals for shoulder pads, but I was out of cool pads when I assembled these.

Thunderwolf mounts done and Snow effects

Finished the Thunderwolf mounts.  Here is a pic of the snow effect after using a matte sealer.  I like it for the most part, but am still learning.  This snow is just Elmer's white glue and baking soda.  I found I like it best with a few pointers:

1.push the glue around with a paint brush to thin it down a bit.

2.put a lot of soda on the glue

3. Don't blow the excess off, but tap the model sideways, to keep some 'skif' of snow in depressions on the base.  That way it looks more natural.

 The riders are not complete, but I REALLY liked the light layer of snow on the two bases closest to the camera.  The matte sealant kinda melted the really thin layer of soda.

Eldar Phantom complete

Finished him!  I magnetized the right weapon so he can switch out for the big sword close combat weapon.  The phantom star cannon is magnetized too with the pulse laser.  Great model.

Dark Eldar Grotesques WIP part two

Here are some shots of how I made the backpacks.

First, I got some cheap nails from Home Depot, cut the heads off for magnetizing something, and use the nail for pinning.

 Here is the Grotesque with a greenstuffed head, and two nails in his back for support of the backpack.  This is so that it doesn't fall off.  I could just see myself building and painting these suckers up, and then one fall off of the table, and the backpack would drop off.  So the nail will stop that.

Next I built up hot glue around the nails.  This will later be covered with green stuff for shaping and painting.

 This guy's backpack is all greenstuff.  I took the hook out of his right hand and gave him another tentacle. I added some parts off of a gargoyle, smaller fish hook with blood angel head, and adjusted his stance to make him more level.

 I traded his sword for an axe made from a raider rudder.  I think it looks a little more brutal, and less sophisticated.

More hooks and chains.

 This guy actually has a sweet shield instead of the spear since I took this picture.

Part one Grotesques WIP 1

I made a vow to myself to not take anymore sloppy pictures.  My new background is a printout from an internet picture of a backdrop.  Now I just need to find where to get a real, cloth backdrop for some good pics.  A tripod really helps too.

Talos WIP part 2

 

Here is my magnetized, assembled Talos.  The lighting isn't the best. I magnetized both arms with large magnets at the shoulders, and smaller magnets in the elbow.  The tail is magnetized, and so is the gun on the forearm.  I made the custom chain flails with the hook close combat weapon, 2 chains from a venom, and two chains from the raider sprue.  I think the hook weapon looks good with all the chains and hooks.  The gun mount came to me after I tried to mount it on the top of the carapace, on a tail tentacle, and a couple of other failure locations.  The arm looks pretty cool.  Just need to green stuff the hole on the top of the guns.

 You can see I mounted the talos top bony, injector thing on the underside of his legs.  Looks a lot like a spur on a fighting rooster.  May name him Foghorn Leghorn.

 Here are some changes I made to Brutus.  I gave him an extra tentacle arm, mounted the gun up high, and magnetized his arms a bit more. 

 I added a wrack close combat weapon on his left too.  Now to try a web way portal list.  2 Talos, reavers, scourges, big wyche squads, wracks, and probably some beasts.

Magnetized Ork Nobz / Flash Gitz / Lootas

 Royce gave me some magnets for my birthday, and now I don't know what I ever did before magnets. I bought bits for 10 nobz minus the heads because I'm using ork pirate heads from MaxMini. My plan is to use the nobz for Flash gitz, regular nobs, or Lootas. I'm not a big fan of the regular lootas, but their weapons are cool. Now I just need finish off the last five and paint these suckers.

 Here is my magnetized Terminator.
